FAQ

How does tutoring work?
Tutoring begins with an assessment to understand what the student currently knows and what they need to learn. Based on this information, I will identify the appropriate level pathway for them to start. Each lesson will be customized to meet the student’s specific needs, with the goal of helping them become fluent readers. Once the student completes the pathway, which usually consists of 12 hours of sessions, they will undergo another assessment to evaluate whether additional tutoring would be advantageous.

What ages is this tutoring for?
I provide tutoring for students of all ages who require assistance in understanding the fundamentals of reading and sound-based decoding.

What is the price?

Sessions are $40 an hour.

Where will we meet?
We will usually meet at the Tavares Public Library, though occasionally we may choose another agreed-upon location.

Yes, it is preferred that a parent stays during the lesson so they can observe how it works and support their child throughout the week.

Will there be homework?
I encourage students to complete homework, which will consist of practicing what they learned during the session. Research shows that repeated practice is essential for accelerating learning.

How long are your sessions?

Sessions last for 1 hour, which includes time for discussions with parents.

Can you help with comprehension?
The primary focus of my sessions is to understand the fundamentals of reading and sound-based decoding to help students become fluent readers. While comprehension is integrated into the lessons, it is not the main goal. Many students struggle with comprehension due to insufficient decoding skills, so those students will benefit from improved comprehension as they enhance their decoding abilities.

Do you offer group sessions?
